One-on-One Mentoring and Assistance
By using my background and training--I am excited to help students create, curate, or refine personal essays. Helping students to find their own personal story or "brand" is the magic of the personal essay. In helping students discover their personal writing "voice," my intent is to guide them in creating engaging content for their readers. I aim to guide them in telling their unique story and showcasing their individual growth so colleges become acquainted with the person beyond the application documents. To see the person beyond the accolades, grades, and clubs. To get students to stand out amongst the mounds of applicants.
In addition to essay prep, I also work with students to hone in on areas of improvement on the language portions of the A.C.T. and S.A.T. By identifying areas of improvements, students are able to zero in on areas where they are weak or their timings is off during testing. Identifying areas of weakness and attacking these areas through curated materials will make a big difference in their overall scores. I can work with students on individual test prep and/or organize materials to address specific areas of improvement.
I offer a one time free Zoom for an hour to assess students. This can also be completed in person. Sessions can be via Zoom or I can meet with students in person. The Magic of the College Essay
The college personal essay is often called the most important part of your application – and for good reason. It’s your moment to go beyond your grades, test scores, and extracurriculars to show admissions officers who you truly are. It’s your chance to share your unique story, your voice, and the experiences that have shaped you. This is where the magic happens.
Helping Students Find Their Voice:
My goal is to walk students through their audience profiles to assist them with rhetorical development, wordsmithing, editing, and audience analysis skills. Empowered with this knowledge, students always find the right lens to present themselves through and produce a quality written piece. The trick is to find the perfect way to draw in readers, harnessing their attention, and introducing who a student is beyond the page.
Brainstorming:
Students will go through activities that will help them recollect events, memories, and learning that shaped them into who they are.
This will be tailored to their academic interests and will individually market each student's essay to readers.
Organization and Structure:
After student's have written drafts expressing their interests and passions, we will work together to create a compelling theme or message that sets students apart from other applicants.
Style: Showcasing Your Unique Voice
Every student has a personality that can be translated through their use of language.
Students will be shown how to use the elements of language to make their essays shine. This allows their message to be showcased in beautiful prose which catches readers' attention.
Test Prep Tailored to Student Needs
Drilling and identifying weaknesses on the SAT is crucial for several reasons such as targeting improvement, time management, maximizing scores and boosting confidence.
Personalized Standardized Test Prep
By identifying areas of improvement, students are able to identify areas and to target these areas by focusing their study time efficiently. This allows for improving specific skills rather than reviewing content they already know.
Furthermore, by addressing areas of need through practice, students hyper-focus on weak areas and work to improve these areas of need. This approach allows students to increase speed and accuracy--lending to time management during the testing session and allowing students to improve completion times on the standardized test within the time limit.
Practice Makes Perfect!
Through specifically curated materials and/or one-on-one feedback during practice test sessions, students are able to maximize scores. By addressing these weak points, students receive direct help where they truly need it and ultimately can raise their overall score.
As students practice and improve on weak areas, they build confidence and reduce anxiety about challenging sections. This specialized study plan ensures a strong performance across all sections they are looking to improve.
